On Thursday Joe Collinson, Will Rowntree and Sam Smoothy skied the Caroline face
on Aoraki Mt Cook. This is only the second time the face has been skied and the
first descent by New Zealanders.
One of the biggest skiable faces in the world, it’s sheer size and complexity makes it
a coveted crown in the world of Ski Mountaineering. To put it all together with not
only safe conditions but phenomenal cold powder snow took a lot of patience and luck!
For the team this is a life time achievement and represents years of training
and building up skills to reach this point.
