MAMMUT HAS RICH HERITAGE IN THE MOUNTAINS. WHAT’S YOUR HERITAGE/BACKGROUND?
Grew up snowboarding and skiing in Victoria’s high country. Despite what some people think we actually have some epic mountains in our state. These days I'm trying to split my time between Aus, Japan and New Zealand as much as possible to work towards my NZMGA Ski Guide cert. The past couple of years i’ve been focusing on crossing over to the Mountaineering side of things. It’s a steep learning curve but lots of fun. On top of this I'm juggling work, raising a family and getting outdoors as much as possible, life is busy but it’s nice to have a balance!
MAMMUT PRODUCTS ARE TESTED IN THE MOST EXTREME LOCATIONS. WHERE’S THE MOST EXTREME LOCATION YOU’VE BEEN WITH YOUR MAMMUT GEAR?
There’s a remote mountain range out beyond Mt Buller that not many people know of. It’s a 2 day skin in from the closest road, so not somewhere you want gear to fail. When you head out on remote missions you only ever carry the minimum essential gear, so having anything fail can make for a miserable trip. There’s enough planning and prep that goes into a big trip, so not having to worry about my Mammut gear failing is one less thing to worry about!
MAMMUT IS KNOWN FOR QUALITY AND INNOVATION. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE OF MAMMUT GEAR?
Definitely my Barryvox S transceiver. As much as i hope to never have to use it to it’s full potential, it’s nice to know that if something ever did go terribly wrong I’d have the best chances of getting a positive outcome. I’ve really given these things a good work out in exercises and can’t fault them. Extended range and intuitive functionality is second to none.
CV-19 HAS FORCED US TO ADVENTURE AT HOME. WHAT HAVE YOU TAKEN FROM THE CV-19 SITUATION?
Staying home has been tough! We were pretty lucky in Australia and could still get outside for exercise so i really focused on running a lot. I ran my first trail Marathon last week which we dubbed the “Covid 42.2 Classic”
It’s also been a good chance to practice rope exercises for crevasse/rock rescue and get my rope rigs dialed.
WORDS OF WISDOM?
“This is definitely Type II fun”
