TAKE 5 WITH TEAM MAMMUT AUSTRALIA // Roxy Perry

MAMMUT HAS RICH HERITAGE IN THE MOUNTAINS. WHAT’S YOUR HERITAGE/BACKGROUND?

I was born and raised in Tasmania. As far as adventure is concerned, there’s no better place to be really! I’ve grown up with boating, climbing, hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and have probably had a crack at most adventure sports at one point or another! For sure, climbing is my ‘thing’ but I love trying new activities. I think I can blame all the thrill-seeking on being a Tassie girl, born and bred.

MAMMUT PRODUCTS ARE TESTED IN THE MOST EXTREME LOCATIONS. WHERE’S THE MOST EXTREME LOCATION YOU’VE BEEN WITH YOUR MAMMUT GEAR?
Last summer I was fortunate enough to have a dream day out on rugged Tasmanian coastline. The ‘Wedding Cake’ mission (Cape Raoul) was something I’ve always wanted to do (especially after sending the Totem Pole) and was absolutely stoked we made it happen. It was a long hike followed by scrambling, routes, and traverses to reach the end goal, Pole Dancer. The views were stunning and the rock was phenomenal! It was a 10/10 day and I’m so glad I was kitted out with my Mammut gear to get us through it!

MAMMUT IS KNOWN FOR QUALITY AND INNOVATION. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE OF MAMMUT GEAR?Favorite?! That’s rude. That’s like making me choose my favourite puppy.
I have to say, I’m in love with my Revelation Dry (Neon Orange, of course). It’s such a finely balanced rope. It’s durable but flexible, strong but light-weight and the colour is both fun and easily visible in low light!

CV-19 HAS FORCED US TO ADVENTURE AT HOME. WHAT HAVE YOU TAKEN FROM THE CV-19 SITUATION?
I think the biggest thing I learnt from being in isolation is that I need to prioritise the things I love and not just get sucked into a daily routine! When I suddenly couldn’t climb indoors or out, I wanted it even more badly. I realised that I took this wonderful sport a bit for granted and would sometimes train or climb “because I had to,” rather than to enjoy the moment. I’ve come back with much fresher eyes and I’m more psyched than ever to get the ball rolling again! Being at home also gave me the motivation kick I needed to do all the training I was less inclined to do when I was distracted by the walls. I’ve had a great run of finger and shoulder strength training and I know I will continue to push this even more now!

WORDS OF WISDOM?
As Karl Marx said, “Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
