Take 5 with Ambassador Billy Lloyd-Blainey

Take 5 with Ambassador Billy Lloyd-Blainey

This week, we took 5 to chat with one of Mammut's Safety Ambassadors, Skiier Billy Lloyd-Blainey.

Mammut has a rich heritage in the mountains. What’s your heritage/background?

Time in the mountains for me all originally stemmed from my dad who was a passionate ski enthusiast  who once Instructed in Austria, America (Aspen) and Falls Creek. Growing up hearing his stories of travelling the world to carve down a big mountain had me in awe.

Luckily he first put me in ski boots at age 2 and ever since I've been obsessed and in love.

Mammut products are tested in the most extreme locations. Where’s the most extreme location you’ve ever tested your Mammut gear?

Have been extremely grateful to test Mammut's products all over the world now for the past 16 seasons in Australia, Japan, NZ, France, Canada and America and would have to say that the time I got heli dropped in the coastal mountains of British Columbia was the most extreme.

There were multiple first descents and incredible storms that had me and the team in shock having to stay hunkered down in our tents and keep cozy in our sleeping bags.

Mammut is known for quality and innovation. What’s your favourite piece of Mammut equipment?

Favourite piece of equipment is so hard to choose as everything is truly the best in durability and technology but for me the stand out would have to be the Beacons.

What’s your favourite aspect of Mammut’s Climate Response?

The decarbonized collection is most impressive

And my personal favourite

This Mammut trail running collection is my 100% decarbonized. Going further than carbon avoidance offsets, this means production emissions are not simply compensated for but are physically removed.

Final words of wisdom?

Lesson I've learnt is that “the Mountain is always boss.” Never to ignore Mother Nature, stay humble and forever grateful for the life time of adventures and stories she provides us all with.

Thanks for taking 5 with us!

We look forward to sharing more stories with our Ambassadors!
